The Platte River Academy PTO Hot Lunch Committee is proud to offer our students and staff a Hot Lunch Program for the 2006-2007 school year.
 
The purpose of the Hot Lunch Program is two-fold.  The first is to provide a convenient hot lunch option to students and staff at Platte River Academy.  The second is to provide a fundraising opportunity for the PRA PTO. 
 
The hot lunch committee contracts with multiple local vendors to provide a well rounded selection of food choices through the week.  We negotiate with vendors to secure competitive pricing so that PRA families have affordable hot lunch options.  Hot lunch is an optional program.  Parents may choose for their children to eat hot lunch everyday or they may choose to have their children eat hot lunch once or twice a week and send a packed lunch the rest of the week.  Our ordering process gives parents the choice on a daily basis.
 
The hot lunch program is also a fundraiser for the PTO.  As such, a small increase is added to the vendor cost of each meal.  This increase is considered a tax deductible donation to the PRA PTO.  A report will be printed for each family at the end of the calendar year that summarizes participation in the hot lunch program and the deductible amount for the year.
 
Based on the 2006 PRA parent survey, PRA families are 92% satisfied with the hot lunch program.  The two areas that parents would like to see the hot lunch program improve are: 
1.      More Variety
2.      More Nutritious Meals
 
In response to these comments, we have added two new vendors to our menu and have asked each vendor to provide at least one “healthy” menu item for parents to choose for their children.  Nutrition information for the vendors is included on pages 14 and 15.

If you do not sign up for hot lunch your child should bring a sack lunch to school.  Please put the student’s name on all lunch containers.  Students bringing soda/glass is not permitted.
