Welcome to Platte River Academy! We are a public school of choice in the Douglas County School District. You will see, as you read the many links and pages on this website, that this school was not started with a “business as usual” idea or model. Our school was started to rewrite the rulebook and to extend the boundaries of the “possible.” We have had a magnificent strategy and it has worked brilliantly for over 18 years. We are very committed to continuing the school’s success and progress.
PRA is a charter school that has earned many prestigious awards, including the John Irwin School of Excellence Award (every year since 2001) and the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award. These are some incredible honors and they showcase all of the care, love, and hard work that has gone into this school.Click here for full article...

Please set aside Tuesday, May 16th from 3:30pm to 4:30pm to honor Amy Borger (K-8 P.E. Teacher), Scotte Burns (7/8 Language Arts Teacher), Cindy Stubbs (Classroom Aide for 19 years), Adrienne Taylor (3rd grade Classroom Aide), and Linda Olson (Reading Specialist for 6th-8th) as they slip away into the sunset and leave the PRA community for retirement and/or new adventures. What a tremendous blessing these five people have been to our school!!!! The impact that each of them has had on our students is EPIC!!!! We will miss them deeply and we are inviting our families to partake in a celebration in the gym. Refreshments will be served!!
We are looking for 5-6 parent volunteers to help us set-up, serve and break down for the above event, from 2:30pm-5pm. If you would like to honor these employees with your helping hands, please go to the following link to sign up: http://signup.com/go/wPIZsKV
On Saturday April 16, the PRA Science Olympiad team took part in their state tournament in Golden, at the Colorado School of Mines.
Congratulations to all team members who contributed to our success this year. The teams did well, finishing in 7th and 14th place out of 36 teams
Special recognition goes out to:
Morgan Croshal and Ellie Cimbura for their 3rd place in Scrambler, and event where students build a car with an egg as its front bumper, that has to go down a track as fast as possible, and put on the brakes before it crashes into a wall at the end of the track
Lyndsey Wehr and Emily Bechtel for their 3rd place in Towers an event where the students build the most efficient tower out of balsa wood. The goal here is to build the lightest tower that holds the most weight.
Ellie Cimbura and Aiden Linderman in their 3rd place in Fast Facts. This event is like a game of Categories. Students have three rounds where they are given 5 letters and 5 fields of science, and they will come up with something that matches each condition. In this event our team champions have memorized several thousand terms! Impressive.
Josh Roy and Chandler Farnsworth for their 3rd place in Wind Power. In this event students will learn about alternative forms of energy and specifically wind power. Our fellas also created their own turbine to generate as much energy as possible. and finally,
Shiv Ghosh and Alex Theroux are your COLORADO STATE CHAMPIONS in Rocks and Minerals. In this event students are able to identify and determine the formation of over 100 different types of rock and minerals
