Welcome to Platte River Academy! We are a public school of choice in the Douglas County School District. You will see, as you read the many links and pages on this website, that this school was not started with a “business as usual” idea or model. Our school was started to rewrite the rulebook and to extend the boundaries of the “possible.” We have had a magnificent strategy and it has worked brilliantly for over 18 years. We are very committed to continuing the school’s success and progress.
PRA is a charter school that has earned many prestigious awards, including the John Irwin School of Excellence Award (every year since 2001) and the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award. These are some incredible honors and they showcase all of the care, love, and hard work that has gone into this school.Click here for full article...
The Platte River Academy choirs are pleased to invite you to our holiday choir concert on Tuesday Dec. 10 at 6:30 in the PRA gym. This concert will be a nice blend of pop songs and holiday songs. Come celebrate the season, and the diligent hard work of our choral students. We look forward to seeing you there.
We have some additional copies of the 2013-14 school directories in the office if you would like to purchase one. They are $10 each.
Please note that the Thursday, December 12th Governing Board meeting has been changed to Wednesday, December 4th. The meeting begins at 6:30pm.
Due to the fact that Veterans Day falls on a Monday this year, we are looking for 2-3 parent volunteers to graciously give up their Sunday afternoon to help with the set-up of this unique event. The time needed is 4:30p-6:30p on Sunday, November 10. We are also in need of 4-5 additional parent volunteers to help the day of the event for shift #1 – 7:30am – 9am (2) and shift #2 – 10am – 12:30pm (2) with last minute set-up, serving lunch and clean-up. If available please contact Rochelle at email@example.com . Thank you.
Are you retired or inactive military? Do you have a “retired”? uniform hanging in your closet? We are looking for a uniform from each branch of military service to display on the bulletin boards for our Veteran’s Day Celebration. If you have a uniform that you are willing to “loan”? us for approximately 2-3 weeks, please contact Rochelle at firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks.
This year’s celebration will take place on Monday, November 11. We will have two assemblies where we honor veterans. The first assembly begins at 8:30am for grades 1 and 2 with 6th Dizon, 5th Byrd, 4th Boyd, 3rd Halpert and 3rd Franz and the second assembly begins at 10:15 am for grades 7 and 8 with 6th Duque, 5th Erickson, 4th Barstad and 3rd Bell. You are welcome to attend either or both ceremonies. Our veterans and other adults are invited to enjoy an informal reception in the library before or after the 8:30am assembly or we will be serving lunch after the 10:15am ceremony for attending Veterans and their families. (please see RSVP form in e-folder).
Again this year we will recognize veterans on our Veterans Wall of Honor. In the Thursday E-folder you will find a form titled, “In Honor of a Veteran who Served or is Serving our Country,” We are asking you to fill out and return this form to the school no later than Tuesday, November 5. These forms will be displayed on our Veteran’s Wall of Honor for all to see. You may also pick up these forms from the front desk. If you have submitted one of these forms in past years, we have retained it and it will be on display.
If you are planning on attending, fill out the RSVP form in today’s e-folder and return to the front office. You may also RSVP to Rochelle Monahan at 303-221-1070 ext. 2045 if you plan to attend. RSVP is not required, but is appreciated. We look forward to seeing you on Monday, November 11. Please check e-folder for the above mentioned flyers.
This year’s Veteran’s Day Celebration is just around the corner. We are looking for help getting our bulletin boards up in the front hallway. This is a fun and creative way to help PRA show our appreciation for those in our family who have so honorably served our country. Plus this a great way to increase your volunteer hour count. Please contact Rochelle at email@example.com ASAP if you are willing and available to help. We would like to begin putting up the boards on November 1st. Thank you.

Masquerade balls were a feature of the Carnival season in the 15th century. Masquerade balls were extended into costumed public festivities in Italy during the 16th century Renaissance. A new resurgence of masquerade balls began in the late 1990s in North America. They still take place today, though in modern times the party atmosphere is emphasized and the formal dancing is usually less prominent and less formal.

The Pumpkin Run / Jog-A-Thon scheduled for this Friday is being postponed due to projected weather. It is very important that our first venture with a Jog-A-Thon as a school-wide activity during the school day be something to enjoy in nice weather versus endure in lousy weather. The weatherman is saying to expect cold, wintry weather on Friday.
So, the Pumpkin Run is being postponed/rescheduled to Monday, October 7. This event with its times and schedules will be run exactly as planned, just on a different day. Your support of and patience with this postponement will be appreciated. A special thanks goes out to all of our volunteers who can accommodate this change and apologies to those who cannot because of commitments to other obligations on Monday.
This is going to be a fun, special event and one that with a super first outing might well become an expected annual event for PRA.
